Fall Break 2021

October 21st-24th. 2021

Our original plan was to go to Montana and see Glacier National Park. After a little research it looked like it would be a little too cold and a high possibility of snow. We switched gears and decided to head in a more southerly direction. We left Thursday morning and with a stop at Rays in Green River for a burger and we were off to Durango Colorado. Along the way we drove through Colorado National Monument and took in the views. After gassing up we headed to the Hanging Flume near Paradox, Colorado. It was a beautiful drive along the Dolores River. The Hanging Flume is an old water conveyance system attached to the wall of the canyon. It was pretty cool. We arrived in Durango and spent the night. The next morning we hiked along the Animas River and downtown Durango, checking out the railroad museum. We had considered riding the train from Durango to Silverton but never put it together. I regret not doing it. After a delicious lunch at Serious Texas Bar-B-Q we were off to Farmington, New Mexico. We stopped at Aztec Ruins National Monument. We watched the movie and toured the ruins. Some of those little doorways were a tight squeeze for a big guy. We spent the night in Farmington and had a wonderful breakfast at a place called Weck’s. We made our way out of New Mexico into Arizona where we made a steep climb and decent over a mountain on our way to Canyon De Chelly National Monument. Where we visited 8 out of the 9 overlooks. (White House was closed.) They offered spectacular views. We then made our way to Monticello, Utah where we stayed the night. It was a dog free hotel so Tyke had to sleep in her crate in the back of the car. Tyke and I explored Monticello in the morning. We headed home with stops to see the Needles Overlook and lunch at Susie’s Branding Iron for lunch in Moab. All and all it was a great trip with wonderful weather.
