The kids had Friday off of school but had to be back for a Halloween party on Saturday night so we decided to forgo the Block trip we had planned and camp out near the Wooden Shoe Road. We arrived at the spot I wanted to camp, we had camped here before and it is a nice spot. I brought the Spring Bar tent which has to be staked down, unfortunately the tent spot was about two inches of dirt on a sandstone slab. So, we could not camp here. We did a little hike to look at the Colorado River and then moved back down the road about a half a mile to another spot. We were able to get the tent up but I still bent a few stakes on a sandstone slab. It ended up being a perfect spot for the kids to play. We did a little hike before dinner and found some nice potholes full of water. For dinner we had chili dogs and tamales or in Holden's case a tamale dog with chili. The weather was nice in the high 70's a little breezy in the evening but it died off for a perfect night full of stars. In the morning it was beautiful sunrise. We packed up and headed home we stopped and checked out the Hite overlook and Oliver made sure we read all the information signs. It was a quick trip, but it was nice to get out and camp. Oh, and of course a stop at Ray's in Green River to top off the trip.
